Adjustable Paving Pedestals - Stackable Height for Any Terrace or Roof Deck

Adjustable paving pedestals

An adjustable paving pedestal is a height-variable support that holds tiles or decking boards off the substrate at the required clearance.

PavePad achieves height adjustment through a stackable system – units of different thicknesses are combined, like building with Lego, until the desired height is reached. No tools are required.

PavePad pedestals are manufactured in Denmark from 100% recycled PEHD plastic, and carry loads of up to 1,200 kg per unit.

How PavePad height adjustment works

Unlike threaded pedestal systems, PavePad does not use a rotating stem to set height. Instead, height is built up by stacking standard PavePad units on top of each other — each in a fixed thickness. This approach keeps installation simple, fast and completely tool-free.

The available PavePad heights are:

  • PaveShim 1.5 mm — for fine-tuning the final height. Can be cut or pulled apart by hand into quarter, half or three-quarter pieces and inserted at any layer
  • PaveDamper 4.5 mm — for use with uneven or crooked tiles; also reduces noise and vibration
  • PavePad 7.5 mm — for adjustment and levelling
  • PavePad 15 mm — the recommended minimum starting height. Ensures space for water and debris to reach drainage points below the paved surface
  • PavePad 45 mm — self-draining; can be split into halves (for sides) or quarters (for corners)
  • PavePad 90 mm — for quickly achieving significant build-up height, improving both speed and economy on site

The minimum recommended starting height is 15 mm. Heights above this are built up by adding further PavePad units to the stack.

For fine-tuning, PaveShim (1.5 mm) is inserted at the top, middle or bottom of the stack as needed — allowing height to be set with precision without cutting or shimming tiles.

Applications - Where adjustable paving pedestals are used

PavePad adjustable pedestals are suited to:

  • Garden terraces and balconies with tiles, natural stone or wooden/composite decking
  • Roof decks where the membrane and insulation must be protected from direct contact
  • Installations requiring free drainage beneath the paved surface
  • Projects where access to services or cables below the paving is required

The open structure of PavePad allows rainwater to drain freely between and beneath the slabs. No adhesives or mechanical fixings are needed — the weight of the slab holds the system securely in place.

PavePad is also suitable for wood and composite decking. PEHD allows battens to be screwed directly into the pad without special brackets or pre-drilling.

Technical specifications

All PavePad units share the following characteristics:

  • Diameter: 180 mm
  • Maximum load: 1,200 kg per PavePad
  • Temperature range: -50°C to +100°C
  • Material: 100% recycled PEHD (Polyethylene High Density)
  • Moisture-resistant and acid-resistant
  • No surface treatment required

Each corner of a PavePad adjusts individually, allowing the pedestal to compensate for tiles with up to 5 mm variation in thickness. This makes it possible to achieve a level surface across a mix of tile sizes without manual shimming under individual tiles.

Sustainability — Circular Economy

PavePad pedestals are produced locally in Denmark from 100% recycled PEHD. The material is non-toxic, durable and fully recyclable at end of life.

PaveSystems collects used products and regenerates them into new granulate for reuse in production. This circular economy approach means the plastic stays in use rather than ending up as waste.
